In the course of a season, it must be admitted that "statements" have little value. As Cardinals manager Tony La Russa is fond of saying, what matters most is accumulating wins. But with all that said, the Cards know they have an opportunity on Tuesday.

The Cardinals received modest doses of good news on three injured players on Monday. Joel Pineiro, Jason Isringhausen and Juan Gonzalez all inched nearer to full health, though only Isringhausen is apparently close to appearing in a game.
